      @mitu ok now i'm having the same problem again probably my fix didn't fix it as i thought

      What fixed it was going in quick menu > controls >
      And making device type go retropad and analog to digital to none
      And then going to option and changing pad 1 from default to analog

      But now that doesnt work any more
      The fix now is puting user device type to retropad w/ analog
      And analog to digital to left analog
      And change pad 1 type to default

      But that doesnt even fix it

      Every time i launch this game the controller will work in the menu but when the game start i cant move or do anything unless i go into retroarch quick menu and changing retropad w/ analog to retropad and analog to digital to none

      And then change it back to retropad w/ analog and analog to digita to left analog

      I can't figure this out

      @lochana

      Necro, but when you google this problem thread is one of the top results, so I'll add this here.

      I was just reading that this emulator can give a performance boost over the LR version, so I decided to try it out and of course my controls don't work. I see the mention of building a config file, but I happen to have a USB keyboard installed and noted the following:

      The game recognizes my analog sticks right off the bat, none of the buttons. If I press escape I get the emulator menu, which allows me to redefine the controls. The problem is, the emulator doesn't seem to recognize any button pushes from my controller. It does list it as a recognized input device (generic 360 controller)but when I select that as the device and try to define keys, it just never seems to recognize any button pushes at all. This seems like a much easier way to define the keys if there is a trick to getting it register the button pushes.

      Edit: A note to future googlers: In order to configure the button presses from your controller in the configuration you need to use the A or X (PS) button to start configuring things. For some reason when I was pushing return and then trying to push a controller button it wasn't reading the configuring. After I pushed that button and then tried to configure the button it was suddenly registering them.

      The only thing it is not registering is my d-pad, so I can't configure the d-pad for up/down/left/right if I want. Not sure why as that works in the lr version just fine.

      It's also not registering my triggers for R2/R3

      @europadecas Despite my arcade, electronics, Linux, and coding experience I found Retropie to be a very complex and difficult to manage project. Kudos to the devs for integrating this many emulators into a single environment, and kudos to the support forum here for the help!

      @bogus You can save the relevant part from the configs for the overlay part, they should be easy to re-apply - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Configuration-Editor/#advanced-configuration

      @baviaannl __Mupen64Plus __ is a standalone emulator, so it's not getting its settings from RetroArch, you can try lr-mupen64plus (which is a Libretro emulator) and see if it works.
      For standalone emulators, just like for libretro emulators, ES will try and generate an input configuration file when you register your input. If you modified it in-game, then you can edit/reset it as described in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-64/

      I solved this as detailed here: (you have to save a keymap and set the active keymap to "positional (user)")...

      @bisantium

      Any of the 'lr-' (RetroArch) emulator cores can easily be remapped per system. When in game, pull up the menu (hotkey+x). Next select 'Quick Menu' and then 'Controls'. Rework them to your liking and then be sure to select the save option for the system from the same menu.

      @herb_fargus I have omitted the analog trigger buttons for the time being. They will likely not be used in my final build as I will be focusing on only 8 and 16 bit generation systems anyway. After this I was planning on doing a fresh RetroPie build for my Pi3 based stationary consoles. This will likely be something I have to revisit so please let me know if you are aware of any potential solutions. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

      @mitu Okay, just did that, didn't work.

      I decided to see if there were some config settings or something under xboxdrv so I ran it from the terminal, but it throws an error saying there are no Xbox controllers connected...
      Even though I was just using it in ES.

      I then ran jstest which looked actually does detect controller inputs... so I don't know where the issue really is... unless my controller is incompatible with xboxdrv?

      I've used 2 different controllers for testing though and they don't work.

      @tonythetiger not everyone knows the answer to everything and a lot of times people dont provide enough info for anyone to help. All help here is done in peoples free time and with how many posts get posted in a day some posts can get lost at the bottom of the pile. It would be cool if you posted your solution to be able to help others who have this same problem.

      @Farmer-Ted I would be very interested in knowing if you found a solution to this. I am in the process of building my own and would like to use controllers that are USB like you are.

      Any info you could provide would be great! Thanks for your help.
